NOTE these rules have changed starting with the February 2007
FOAM cup:
(1)
A given brewer may enter only one entry in each FOAM Cup; however…
(2)
If more than one brewer participated in brewing a beer, each brewer
can be listed on the entry, and each will receive points toward
Brewer of the Year.
(3)
One bottle is required for the “Best of Show” format judging.
We prefer plain, brown bottles, but we can handle other types.
(4)
Entries should specify name of brewer(s) and the BJCP style subcategory
(e.g. John Brewer, Brown Porter, 12A). Entrants need to choose the subcategory
because judges will not assign it for them during the judging.
(5)
Beers are judged against BJCP guidelines, in a Best of Show format, with
places 1st, 2nd, and 3rd awarded. No written
feedback is returned from this round.
(6)
Entrants can submit extra bottles for further, complete evaluation and
will get back a full score sheet completed by a BJCP judge later and returned to
you.
A self-addressed, stamped envelope will get the score sheets back sooner.
Best of Show Format –
New in 2007!
We are streamlining the process a lot. The main judging of
the beers for the FOAM Cup will be done in a “Best of Show” format. This means
that there is no BJCP score sheet completed for each beer. Instead, the beers
are lined up against each other, and the judge panel compares them one on one,
and they decide (we hope quickly) on a 1-2-3 ranking of the top three beers.
This format will speed up the judging a lot, and we hope
this will allow for more members to be part of the judging panels by making it
short and free of paperwork.
This will also help us get the results of each FOAM Cup during the meeting.
