Privacy of members addresses -

It was brought to the officer’s attention that member’s addresses are freely available on the website and the newsletter. It is possible to leave the address blank on Google Calendar so that the Map button will not function. However, newsletters have always been available via the website. Should/can we password protect the newsletters? What potential solutions are there to protect the privacy of members?

Action - Mike K. to get with Piet to figure out a potential solution where only members can get to the addresses.

Pub Crawl – Tabled.

Hop Farm – Mid August hop pick at Stillpoint Farms - $0.25/ounce – Tom Barse – recommend he put it out on Email.

Flying Dog – 1st twenty FOAM members are invited for a Backyard Symposium – Thursday, 2 June, 1030-1430. Jim will put out on email for more informtion. Members to reply directly to Erin Biles.

Frederick Beer Week Planning

Update: Opening night is 10 May. Still don’t know the location. Maybe Barley & Hops

11 May – Jim S. to teach beer judging 101, an introduction to tasting beer. 6 flights of several beers. Get people to think about beers. Dave Justice and Bill Heverly to assist. Brewer’s Alley to host, perhaps 25-30 people.

14 May – Hop Farm – bands, breweries, brewing demo?

Follow-up – Jim Sawitzke is the FOAM rep for Frederick Beer Week. More details to follow as they develop.

FOAM Battle of the Bubbles – committee met 28 Feb 2011. Minutes at the end of this document.

  1. Need a “prize coordinator” - Marion Kozar volunteered.
  2. 9 beers (top 3 in each category). BOS will be brewed by one of the local breweries. Categories are Stouts, IPAs, and Wheat beers.
  1. Lot’s of great prizes collected from various vendors and supporters.

Update - BOB and FBW planning continue. Jim and Mike provided updates. Everything is on track and moving forward.

New Business:

  1. Ribbons for FOAM cups – Mike Lamb to price out. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
  2. Greg Kitsock, contact him re: Frederick Beer Week Calvin and Jim to contact through Kevin Smith.

Minutes/decisions about Battle of the Bubbles 2/28/11

 

Battle of the Bubbles

1st Round: May 1st

BOS: May 10th in public

Entries: Enter online, Piet is setting up the site. There will be a page on FOAM with all the details and a link to the entry site.

2 Bottles, Brown, unmarked, no raised letters, no labels, no markings on cap etc.

Entries must be at the Flying Barrel from April 15-30th. Deadline is 2pm on the 30th. Check with Bob if he will except entries shipped to the Barrel.

No limit to the number of entries

Who can enter: Members of brew clubs in the FSHCG Guild (http://www.mdhomebrewers.org/) and anyone that lives in Frederick county

Cost: $5 first entry, $4 all subsequent

Piet will determine if we should use Paypal for online as well as determine if we will eat the cost, or charge $1 more for online.

BOS beer will be brewed at one of Frederick’s local breweries. Unclear which at this time but one of them for sure.

Prizes are needed for 9 beers (top 3 in each category).

- Frederick Beer Week Planning – a committee was formed to represent FOAM at Frederick Beer Week Planning. The club agreed in principle to planning, organizing, and executing a homebrew competition, however, there were many questions yet to be addressed. Mike Lamb is taking the lead on the Homebrew Comp with Jim Sawitzke assisting.

Schifferstadt Brew demo – mk to check with Bob regarding the barrel billing FOAM for event ingredients and FOAM Brewer of the Year Gift Certificates.

 

FOAM Holiday Party – Patty and Cara working on the menu – a more frugal menu this year.

 

Newsletter – Announce in the newsletter and the FOAM meeting that Jim is looking for a newsletter editor.  Perhaps two people – one to edit and one to format the newsletter?

New Business

Discussion: Due to damage during high winds at the Celtic Festival, we will need to purchase a new canopy.  Mike Lamb will research prices

Discussion: Due to shortage of funds, we will not have a band this year.  We will check with Dillon as to whether he will be available to play acoustic guitar.  A smoked Meat competition will be held, winner to receive $25 gift certificate to Flying Barrel. Determine whether Bob will match prize.

Discussion: FOAM Website Update – Google Calendar upkeep.  Will formally switch to Google Calendar/groups by 1 Jan 2011.

Mike Kozar to check in with Stillpoint Farms/Tom Barse re: September meeting at the Barrel-  http://www.stillpointfarming.com/home

Pub Crawl – local – 28 August – meet @B&H at 1130.  Drive to Frederick – walk from there.  Mike Lamb volunteered to coordinate.

Discussion: Celtic Festival (May 8th @ Frederick Fairgrounds) will we participate? Club normally buys ingredients

Discussion: Chili Cook-off.  We missed deadline for 2010 participation.  We will need to register before end of March, 2011 for the 2011 Cook-off.

Discussion: Where to hold June 29th Officer's Meeting, tentatively at Dave Justice's – (he wasn't present to defend himself)

Discussion: Jim raised issue of whether to publish Tom Flores' testimony RE: the Beer Surcharge Legislation in the newsletter, how much of it to print, and whether it might be too political.

Discussion: Suggested that a link to Terry Brann's website (documenting his hike of the Appalachian Trail) be published in the newsletter.
